Jonathan Klein Presents at the 2004 Future of Health Technology Summit

Cambridge, MA, Oct 25, 2004 - Jonathan Klein, Vecna's Director of Robotics, recently presented a lecture on October 25th at the Future of Health Technology (FHT) Summit at MIT. The summit focused on key emerging robotic technologies as they relate to care for the growing elderly population. Mr. Klein's primarily addressed the socio-emotional benefits of "relationship robots" - robots designed to emulate human and animal interactivity. To illustrate the capabilities and potentials of these relationship robots, Mr. Klein gave demonstrations of consumer products he developed in the past with Hasbro and iRobot.

As a whole, the robotics industry is an early but fast-growing sector of the economy. While industrial robotic arms have been a staple in U.S. factories for decades, emerging markets in consumer, commercial and military/homeland security sectors have gained significant traction. Sony Corporation estimates the consumer market alone will reach $5 billion worldwide by 2008.
